Outdoor Warning Sirens

Programs that are responsible for the installation, testing and maintenance of siren systems that are used to notify the public of a tornado, tsunami, flash flood, hazardous materials release, civil disturbance, terrorism incident or other emergency that requires a response by the population, particularly people who are outdoors. Residents alerted by the siren are advised to tune in to local radio or television stations for instructions, or in the case of a tornado or other severe weather warning, to take immediate cover. Warning sirens are generally activated by the community’s emergency operations center or 911 center.
